Job Summary

We are seeking an outstanding individual to fill the vacant position of Assistant Hatchery Manager at the Elkmont, AL Hatchery.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for assisting the Hatchery Manager in daily operations, managing employees and processes, and ensuring various regulatory standards are met. They will report to the Elkmont Hatchery Manager.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and minimum of 2 years poultry related experience
• Experience in managing and motivating employees
• Effective leadership with the ability to delegate tasks accordingly
• Possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and implement programs as needed
• Ability to solve practical problems
• Excellent computer application skills with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must be a self-motivator with ability to perform tasks with accuracy and efficiency
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not essential
• Must possess a valid Driver's License

The following duties will vary according to the needs of the department. Normal duties will include:

• Assist in planning. Develop and implement policies and practices for the hatchery to ensure attainment of goals.
• Coordinate day to day activities such as egg sets, incubation and hatching of eggs, servicing chicks, shipping, and maintenance of the facility and equipment.
• Maintain/create and interpret records on utilization, biological performance, costs, etc. and assist in preparing schedules and reports.
• Arrange for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
• Hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of Elkmont Hatchery staff.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and be on call 24/7.
• Maintain and ensure compliance of all Safety, Bio-Security, Compartmentalization, Quality Management System, TSA, and Animal Welfare programs.
