Your personal sphere of influenceThe Department of Communication, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna is one of the largest and strongest research-oriented departments for communication science worldwide. The advertised position is situated within the Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group, led by Professor Jörg Matthes. The Advertising & Media Psychology Research Group deals with the impact of modern media environments on people's thinking, behavior, and opinions, using both quantitative as well as qualitative methods to conduct their research.
The project Digital Hate: Perpetrators, Audiences, and (Dis)Empowered Targets (DIGIHATE), funded by the European Research Council, affords a multi-disciplinary, international, and methodologically multifaceted perspective that accounts for different actor groups (perpetrators, audience members/bystanders, targets from socially disadvantaged and socially advantaged groups) in order to advance our understanding of the emergence, perception, and individual and collective consequences of malicious online communication. DIGIHATE is set to play an essential part in maintaining and empowering a resilient digital society. The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of research activities.
The position is advertised to the extent of 30 hours/week (75%) for a period of 3,5 years (42 months), with the position to be filled by July 1, 2024.

Fixed-term contract and fair salary: The basic monthly gross salary for this advertised position currently (2024) is € 3.578,80 (based on full time employment) and will be paid 14 times a year for a period of 3,5 years (i.e., the duration of the contract). The basic salary increases if we can credit prior professional experience.
