The Institute for Urban and Regional Research (ISR) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria's leading non-university research and science institution, is the only spatial science oriented non-university research institute in Austria conducting application-orientated basic research at the highest level and not directly involved in planning-related activities. It is engaged in the analysis of structures and the dynamics of modern society in both urban and regional contexts, analysing population and society together with the natural, built and social environment. The ISR emphasises the multi-perspective and transdisciplinary approach to research, placing societal problems or scientific investigation at the heart of the analysis, independent of disciplinary parameters. The institute is offering a PhD Student Position (f/m/x) (part-time / 30h per week) starting in June 15th, 2024 in the Quantum Foundations and Quantum Information on the Nano- and Microscale research group led by Univ.- Prof. Dr. Markus Aspelmeyer. The Aspelmeyer group´s research objective is to investigate quantum effects of nano- and microscopic systems and their implications for the foundations and applications of quantum physics. Your duties: Participation in research projects and project proposals Spatial data analysis in QGIS, visualisations, database management Quantitative geostatistical evaluations Providing IT support for employees of the institute Your profile: Completed Master’s degree with specialisation in GIS/Cartography Previous academic experience and/or subject-related professional practice Knowledge of quantitative (spatial) data processing (QGIS) Excellent proficiency in German and English Team orientation, creativity, independence Interested candidates are invited to submit: An interesting and variated field of activities in the innovative environment of a scientific institution The opportunity of pursuing further scientific qualification (doctoral studies) Period of appointment: 1,5 years An annual gross salary of € 37.773,33, according to collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences We are looking forward to receiving your convincing written application (covering letter, curriculum vitae, certificates of qualification, and, if applicable, list of publications).
