This position is in Cargill's animal nutrition and health business, where we improve animal lives through better nutrition. Our team researches, innovates and creates solutions that deliver healthy results for our customers.

Embedded in the team of the global company Cargill, Delacon researches, develops and produces natural feed additives for poultry, pigs, ruminants and aquaculture at the Engerwitzdorf site (Linz area).

Job Purpose and Impact

The Materials Scientist will use knowledge of material science to provide technical expertise in support of research projects. In this role, you will use scientific tools to provide materials characterization and data analysis and optimize existing materials science methods while collaborating with research and development teams across the enterprise or business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring to team members in product development and laboratory.
  • Stay abreast of current research, literature and analytical advancements.
  • Provide hands on support to research activities within the group including material forensics, materials characterization involving spectroscopy, microscopy, rheology, particle size and shape analysis, mechanical and thermal testing.
  • Partner and communicate regularly with stakeholders such as project managers, business or group management, production, outside vendors, or technology providers.
  • Identify and examine technical problems and determine solutions needed, using analytical techniques, for materials characterizations.
  • Operate and maintain instruments and develop methods for materials characterization.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (pharma / food science / chemistry)
  • Advanced knowledge in analytical and food chemistry and technology
  • Minimum of three years of related work experience
  • English and German language knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work on complex projects and research questions
  • Results oriented, good communication and time management skills
