Objectives of the Position

As the Controlling Manager, she/he is directly and fully responsible for all Planning and Controlling activities, namely:

  • Drive a Controlling point of view towards economic decision-making and value generation
  • Monitor/review of regional, sub-regional and country KPI development with the defined target and suggest action plans to the management proactively and follow up on them once approved
  • Drive management decision via e.g., business case calculations
  • Keep close contact and co-work with Regional Management Stakeholders, Subregions/Country Controllers and Business Country Controllers to create synergy
  • Support for regional service division, sub-regional and country related Service Units
  • Window for contacting regional & global units such as Regional Service Unit & controlling units
  • Act as a business partner (controller) driving for cost excellence
  • Secure management understanding of business performance by achieving a high level of transparency of cost development & explanation of business reasons behind financial results
  • Design and maintain cost KPIs to ensure effective cost management
  • Support controlling projects
  • Achieve efficient cost planning
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and present complex data in a consumable way
  • Drive for continuous improvement of controlling processes
  • Lead a team of controlling managers, senior associate analysts, senior analysts, and analyst to deliver controlling and reporting support service scope

Main Tasks

  1. Planning & Performance Management

1.1. Reporting & Communication

  • Secure Senior Management (e.g., Board Member, Presidents, and Managing Directors) understanding of business performance
  • Provide frequently supplement reports to management for better business steering
  • Lead preparation of detailed monthly reports and commentaries for regional, sub-regional and country (P&L, functional costs, discretionary costs, cCM1 and margin analysis) to Local management
  • Provide timely analysis and review/monitor performance with target
  • Communicate frequently with Service units for cost specific topics and proactively highlight issues/risks
  • Lead regular communication with Regional Finance & Controlling, Regional Service Units and all relevant parties.
  • Support for scheduled business steering meeting
  • Act as business partner and advise management. Participate in decisions making & support of major projects

1.2. Forecasting / Macroeconomic update

  • Highlight risks independently at an early stage and suggest solutions from a controlling point of view
  • Familiar with macroeconomic development for the region and countries by getting in touch with CDS team and provide insight to senior management for macroeconomic development trend and outlook for upcoming months if available

1.3 Operational Planning

  • Support the operational planning for Service units with relevant data & information
  • Lead/coordinate/monitor/review Service unit cost planning for units of sub-regional and country Service unit cost planning for units of sub-regional and country

1.4 Target Setting

  • Support the set-up of the local targets based on the approved Operational Planning (OP) information. Cascade the OP information properly and proactively down to all relevant parties in alignment with the management team
  • Evaluate/monitor the actual performances compared with targets and proactively propose action plans on a continuous basis
  1. Business Analysis

2.1 Act as business consultant

  • Analyze profitability and cost performance compared with budget & Prior Year and inform the respective teams about deviations
  • Manage/coordinate/co-work ad-hoc requests, provide the proper analysis and do business partnering with all SU/BU controllers for their decision making and value generation
  • Continuous improvement for more efficient and innovative reporting using business intelligent tool for both side of distributing and receiving
  • Develop/create new analysis reports with various insights in line with digitalization concept
  • Prepare country specific economic evaluation for entire organization by conceptualizing and verifying economic benefits from innovation measures, plant cost saving measures, best employee practices, and best sales team measures, etc.
  • Challenge status quo and advise senior management on improvement opportunities

2.2 Conduct business case preparation

  • Prepare business case preparation/analyze/facilitate related data collection and information exchange
  1. Governance & Compliance

3.1 Policies & Procedures:

  • Ensure that finance & accounting policies & procedure are adhered to

3.2 Initiate and observe Internal Control Effectiveness

  • Support external/internal audit activities

3.3 Risk Management

  • Monitor risks (e.g., insurance cases, lawsuits) and keep track of the likely risk value and entry probability

3.4 Decision Committee Member Representative

  • Act as Asia Pacific representative for Cost Sharing Agreement (CSA) / Service Charging Agreement (SCA) cost center setup review committee member
  • Support of Annual Review Meeting (ARM) and External Audit of CSA/SCA Cost centers and audit evidence compilation for Asia Pacific region
  1. Interface Management

4.1 Organizational interface Management

  • Check integrity of the data to ensure whether the information is relevant, transparent, and reliable
  • Support/ensure financial master data maintenance

4.2 Ensure data accuracy of the BW systems

  • Ensure that all BW related systems show accurate data (BW OCEAN, BW COINS, BW COBUS, BW Market Profit and MARIS, etc.) and initiate trainings of the respective user groups
  • Ensure advanced understanding and utilizing BW system for comprehensive data analysis

4.3 BASF Group Reporting: Management Reporting Information System (MARIS)

  • Ensure reporting in line with BASF Group Reporting / MARIS

4.4 Introduce new KPIs / new concepts

  • Introduce new KPIs and train the respective audience (e.g., consolidated business steering (COBUS), market profit, BW COINS costs)
  • Keep close contact within the controlling community to always be updated about the latest controlling methodologies and process and act as a multiplier in the organization

Requirements

Education

  • University graduate - Accounting / Finance / Controlling, ACCA and/or CIMA

Working Experience

  • 8 to 10 years, preferably including working experience in Controlling and/or Management Accounting

Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of budgeting, planning, reporting processes, IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), Controlling methods
  • Knowledge of SAP BW applications, MS Office, SAP Analysis Office & SAP FI/CO
  • Interpersonal and communications skills are important to develop and establish business partnering
